If you are one of the lucky ones to be chosen to join the orientation week or MDS, then good for you. You have people who can guide you on the whats, wheres and whens of uni life. But if you have not been lucky enough to be part of it, then fret not. I'll share you some tips on starting out a new uni life in this campus.

1. Download the UiTM Shah Alam map

You can get lost here easily. It took me a good 2 semesters to remember most of the places here and there are some places that are still not yet explored. You might need to go to certain departments to get some forms or whatsoever and sometimes, directions from people can be misleading. The solution? Download a map of UiTM Shah Alam and save it in your phone so you can get your bearings straight (pun intended).

You can download from the link below (Thanks, ACIS UiTM!)

2. Get to know the bus schedule

There are 2 types of buses in this campus, which are the RapidKL bus and the free bus. In terms of timing, there's not much of a difference yet the free bus might stall at its waiting hub at Dataran Cendekia (DC) for quite some time so that the bus can be filled up to its maximum capacity before embarking on its routeThe first bus is at 7.30 am and the last bus can be either 9.30pm - 10pm depending on your luck. Certain bus routes might not stop at your intended destination or worse, you  might just be on your way to the Section 16 campus so asking the bus driver beforehand would be wise.

3. Download the SITS App

The SITS app is a free app from the Selangor government that tracks down the location and route of the free Selangorku bus. There are 4 routes that cover major landmarks in Shah Alam and certain routes intersect at certain stops to maximise accessibility. I suggest that you take advantage of it while it's still free and go explore the city. And if you want to go back by KTM, the SA04 bus stops at KTM Padang Jawa and the bus stop is right outside of the back gate (The Jakel entrance) and you can go to KTM Shah Alam with the SA02 bus at the Section 2 bus hub (Opposite the Meranti College). However, the bus would not make a stop at KTM Padang Jawa on Fridays as the area would be closed for the night market.

(UPDATE: Starting from July 1st, the SA04 bus route will stop at the major bus stops in the Shah Alam campus).

4. Get a Touch n Go card. Or better yet, the MyRapid Student concession card. And the KTMB I-card.

Having these cards has been a massive lifesaver. Apart from making commuting easier, you can save tremendously in the long run. Touch 'n Go users are entitled to 20% discounts for every one-way journey while for the MyRapid Student card holders would enjoy a 50% discount. KTMB i-card holders would get a 40% discount for ETS tickets and 50% discount for Klang Valley routes.

For more information on how to apply for these cards, do check on the websites below:

5. Follow the UiTM social media profiles.

The world is getting smaller and easier to get information. I find that Twitter and Instagram are useful mediums to get the latest updates and for networking purposes. Some of the accounts that I suggest you could follow are :

1) The UiTM official account ( @transUiTM )
2) Any of its faculties accounts
3) The MPP accounts ( @MPPUiTM_SA )
4) Various student clubs' accounts

So these are the tips to facilitate your studies here. I will update on more tips from time to time so stay tuned! All the best and welcome to UiTM!
